It feels like every week there’s a new ‘AI co-pilot for PMs’ promising to revolutionize our workflow. We’re told they can instantly synthesize user feedback, draft perfect user stories from a single prompt, and even analyze competitor landscapes while we sleep. The efficiency gains seem obvious.
But as we integrate these tools, I’m starting to wonder about the hidden costs. When we let an AI summarize 100 user interviews, do we lose the subtle emotional cues and crucial context that only come from engaging directly with the raw feedback? When a machine drafts our product specs, are we accidentally outsourcing the critical thinking and nuance that separates a good product from a great one?
It’s the classic efficiency vs. effectiveness dilemma. These tools can feel like a brilliant intern: great at executing well-defined tasks and saving us time. But can they ever be a true strategic partner? Or worse, are they becoming a crutch that distances us from the very people we’re supposed to serve: our customers? I’m keen to hear how you’re all navigating this.
How are you balancing the leverage of AI tools with the irreplaceable value of deep, first-hand customer immersion?
