AI Products Need Product-Led Growth

The buzz around AI is undeniable, but are we truly building products that users love and adopt? A recurring theme I’m seeing is the critical need for Product-Led Growth (PLG) principles in the development of AI-powered products. It’s not enough to simply embed a cool AI feature; the real challenge lies in making that feature intuitive, valuable, and discoverable within the product experience.

For product managers, this means shifting focus from merely demonstrating AI’s technical prowess to rigorously validating its impact on user problems. We must ensure that our AI capabilities are not just “nice-to-haves” but integral solutions that users organically gravitate towards. This involves extensive user research, iterative prototyping, and a deep understanding of how AI truly enhances workflows, rather than complicating them. The success of an AI product increasingly hinges on its ability to self-serve, delight, and retain users through its inherent design, rather than relying solely on sales or marketing efforts. This focus on organic adoption ensures true product-market fit in a rapidly evolving technological landscape.
