Hey everyone,
As PMs, we’re obsessed with user experience, feature adoption, and hitting our roadmap goals. But are we overlooking a critical dependency: our own team’s developer experience (DevEx)?
There’s a growing movement around ‘Platform Engineering’—the idea of treating your internal development platforms as a product, with your engineers as the customers. The goal is to create a smooth, efficient path from idea to production, reducing friction and cognitive load for developers.
Why should we care? Because a poor DevEx directly hurts our ability to deliver value. When engineers are fighting clunky CI/CD pipelines or struggling with testing environments, that’s time not spent building the features on our roadmap. Great DevEx, on the other hand, is a velocity multiplier. It enables smaller, faster, and safer releases, which means we can experiment and learn more quickly.
True cross-functional alignment means understanding these internal challenges. Gaining visibility into engineering workflows, something tools like Leera.io can help facilitate, allows us to have more empathetic and realistic conversations about trade-offs and timelines. This isn’t just an ‘engineering problem’; it’s a product-enablement issue.
How involved are you with your company’s internal platforms and DevEx? Is this a conversation you’re having with your engineering counterparts?
