Stop Worrying About AI Replacing You and Start Focusing on These Core PM Skills

There’s a lot of chatter about AI replacing product managers. I think that’s the wrong way to frame the conversation. AI won’t replace great PMs, but it will absolutely replace the tedious, administrative parts of our jobs, forcing us to level up our strategic thinking.

The real impact of AI is automation of the ‘product owner’ tasks — synthesizing mountains of user feedback, drafting initial user stories, analyzing usage data to spot patterns, and even generating progress reports. This is a massive opportunity. When these tasks are automated, the PM’s role naturally elevates. We’re freed from the ticket-writing hamster wheel to focus on the truly human-centric work: crafting a compelling product vision, deeply understanding customer psychology, navigating complex stakeholder dynamics, and making high-stakes judgment calls.

The PMs who thrive will be those who master the art of leveraging AI as a co-pilot. They will ask better questions of their data and spend more time on strategy and less on spreadsheets. We’re seeing a new generation of tools emerge to facilitate this; at Leera, we’re focused on how AI can bridge the gap between raw user feedback and a clear, actionable product roadmap.

This shift requires a conscious evolution of our skills. We need to double down on empathy, storytelling, and cross-functional leadership.

So, what’s one tedious task in your current workflow you would gladly hand over to an AI assistant tomorrow?
