AI Literacy: The New PM Superpower?

Hey fellow product enthusiasts,

We’re in an era where AI is rapidly moving from a niche technology to a core component of many successful products. But how many of us, as Product Managers, truly feel confident navigating the nuances of AI, beyond just understanding its surface-level applications?

I’m seeing a growing trend: AI literacy is becoming less of a ‘nice-to-have’ and more of a critical skill for PMs. It’s not about becoming a data scientist or an ML engineer, but rather understanding the foundational concepts – what AI can realistically achieve, its limitations, the data requirements, and the ethical implications. This knowledge empowers us to ask better questions, collaborate more effectively with our engineering teams, identify genuinely innovative product opportunities, and steer clear of common pitfalls.

Without this baseline understanding, how can we truly lead the development of AI-driven features, articulate their value, or even assess product-market fit in a world increasingly shaped by intelligent systems? It’s about bridging the gap between technical possibility and user value.

What are your thoughts? How are you personally building your AI literacy, and what resources have you found most valuable?
