AI & PM: Adapting Our Playbook

The discourse around AI’s impact on product management isn’t just noise; it’s a fundamental shift in how we build and deliver. In the past week alone, I’ve seen countless articles and discussions on how AI is automating everything from market research synthesis to initial spec generation, even influencing UI/UX design through generative tools. This isn’t about AI replacing PMs, but rather augmenting our capabilities and, crucially, reshaping our responsibilities.

Why does this matter? Our traditional toolkit is evolving. Product managers need to move beyond simply using AI tools to understanding their underlying mechanisms, their ethical implications, and how to strategically integrate them into product roadmaps. This means developing a new kind of literacy – AI literacy – to effectively collaborate with engineering, assess feasibility, and anticipate user needs in an AI-driven world. We’re not just defining products; we’re defining how AI contributes to them, and how users interact with that intelligence. It’s a significant opportunity for innovation but also presents challenges in data privacy, bias, and ensuring genuine user value.

How are you practically adapting your product processes and skillsets to navigate the AI revolution?
