AI & PM: Navigating the New Product Landscape

The rise of AI isn’t just a technological shift; it’s fundamentally reshaping the product management discipline. We’re moving beyond merely “using” AI tools to building “with” and “for” AI, and that demands a new playbook from PMs.

Historically, our focus has been on understanding user needs and translating them into features. With AI, that scope expands. Product Managers now need to grasp AI’s capabilities and limitations, identify opportunities to embed intelligence into existing products, and even conceive entirely new AI-native offerings. This impacts everything from roadmapping—prioritizing AI features requires a different lens for ROI and technical feasibility—to user research, where AI can both assist in data analysis and present new ethical considerations.

Cross-functional collaboration also evolves, requiring deeper engagement with data scientists and ML engineers, understanding model performance, and explaining complex AI concepts to stakeholders. The core challenge remains product-market fit, but now it’s about finding fit in a dynamic, algorithm-driven environment. Staying relevant means continuously learning and adapting.

What do you see as the single biggest challenge or opportunity for Product Managers as AI continues to mature and integrate into every facet of product development?
