AI's UX Challenge: Losing the Human Touch?

We’re living through an incredible era of AI integration into our products. From generative features to predictive analytics, AI is changing what’s possible. But as product managers, are we consistently prioritizing the user experience as much as the AI capability? I’ve been observing a trend where the sheer novelty and technical prowess of AI can sometimes lead us to overlook fundamental UX principles. We’re so focused on demonstrating what AI can do that we might inadvertently complicate workflows, introduce unexpected behaviors, or even create a sense of detachment for users. The ‘human touch’ – intuition, simplicity, and genuine understanding of user needs – risks being deprioritized in the race for AI-powered features. This isn’t just about making things look pretty; it’s about product-market fit, user adoption, and long-term retention. A brilliant AI feature that’s difficult to use or doesn’t solve a real user problem effectively will ultimately fail. Our role as PMs is crucial here: to be the voice of the user, ensuring that AI enhances, rather than detracts from, the overall product experience. How are you and your teams balancing the excitement of AI innovation with the unwavering commitment to exceptional user experience in your current product development?
