We’re all seeing the flood of ‘AI for X’ tools, but I think we’re missing the bigger picture. The conversation is shifting from using AI as a simple productivity tool to embracing AI as a genuine collaborator. This is the dawn of the ‘Augmented Product Manager.’
Think about it. We used to spend hours manually sifting through user feedback to find insights. Now, an AI co-pilot can synthesize thousands of data points in seconds, surfacing key themes and sentiment. We’d block out a day to write a PRD from scratch; now, we can generate a robust first draft in minutes, freeing us up to focus on refinement, strategy, and stakeholder alignment.
This isn’t about replacing product managers; it’s about elevating them. The core value of a PM is shifting from the ‘what’ (the manual execution of tasks) to the ‘why’ (the strategic direction, critical thinking, and vision). By offloading cognitive busywork to our new AI partners, we unlock more time for what truly matters: deep customer conversations, cross-functional leadership, and shaping a compelling product vision. The future PM role is one of expert prompter, validator, and strategist.
How are you evolving your core workflows to shift from simply using AI tools to truly partnering with AI on strategic tasks?
