Beyond Features: Building AI-Native Products

The buzz around AI isn’t new, but the conversation is evolving. We’re moving beyond merely “integrating AI features” into existing products towards a more profound shift: building truly AI-native experiences. This isn’t just about adding a chatbot or a recommendation engine; it’s about reimagining how a product fundamentally operates, learns, and delivers value when AI is at its core.

For product managers, this means a significant recalibration. Our traditional roadmapping and user research methods need to adapt. Instead of defining static requirements, we’re increasingly designing for emergent behaviors, data feedback loops, and dynamic personalization. Understanding the capabilities and limitations of large language models, machine learning models, and prompt engineering becomes as crucial as understanding user flows. Cross-functional collaboration deepens, with data scientists and AI engineers becoming even more integral partners from conception.

This shift challenges us to think less about deterministic features and more about intelligent systems that evolve with user interaction and data. It’s about designing for delight through predictive capabilities and adaptive interfaces that simply weren’t possible before. The product-market fit equation itself might look different in an AI-native world, driven by continuous learning and adaptability.

What specific product management skills do you believe are becoming most critical as we move towards building more AI-native products?
