Let’s be honest, a huge chunk of our time as PMs is spent on necessary but deeply tactical work. We’re summarizing user feedback, triaging bugs, cleaning up backlogs, and writing endless documentation. While crucial, this operational churn can easily pull us away from the high-level strategic thinking that truly moves the needle.
Lately, however, I’m seeing a tangible shift. The new wave of AI-powered tools is becoming incredibly effective at absorbing this ‘grunt work.’ Think about it: AI can now instantly synthesize a hundred user interviews into key themes, draft a full PRD from a few bullet points, or analyze product analytics to surface anomalies we might have missed. This isn’t about replacing the PM; it’s about augmenting us.
By offloading these time-consuming tasks to an AI ‘co-pilot,’ we can reclaim our most valuable resource: cognitive bandwidth. This frees us up to focus on the uniquely human and strategic parts of our role—building deep empathy with users, navigating complex stakeholder dynamics, and charting a visionary course for the product. We might be on the cusp of evolving the PM role into one that is almost purely strategic.
What’s your take on this? Are you successfully using AI to automate the tactical parts of your job, and if so, how has it impacted your ability to focus on strategy?
