Beyond the Hype: Is an AI Copilot the Most Important New Member of Your Product Team?

We’re all building AI into our products, but let’s talk about a different user: us. The rise of generative AI is creating a new class of tools designed to be a PM’s ‘copilot.’ These aren’t just fancy text editors; they’re partners that can synthesize user feedback from thousands of sources, draft initial PRDs, generate user story acceptance criteria, and even analyze competitive landscapes overnight.

This isn’t about replacing the product manager. It’s about augmenting our capabilities so we can escape the ‘feature factory’ grind and focus on what truly matters: deep customer empathy, strategic vision, and complex stakeholder alignment. When an AI can handle the first draft of our documentation or analyze raw data dumps, it frees us up to spend more time on the uniquely human aspects of our role.

But this shift also raises critical questions about our skills. If the tactical parts of our job are automated, how do we demonstrate value? How do we ensure the AI’s output doesn’t create a disconnect from the actual voice of the customer? We are moving into an era of ‘human-in-the-loop’ product management.

So, how are you using AI in your day-to-day PM workflow, and which ‘un-automatable’ skills do you think will become most critical for product leaders in the next few years?
