The conversation around AI in product management is maturing. It’s no longer just about whether AI will take our jobs, but how it will fundamentally reshape them. I’m seeing a powerful trend emerge: AI as the ultimate PM assistant, automating the tactical tasks that consume so much of our time.
Imagine feeding hours of user interviews into a tool and getting back a concise summary of key pain points and emerging themes in minutes. Think about AI drafting initial user stories from a PRD, or running preliminary data analysis on an A/B test to highlight significant results.
This isn’t about replacing our judgment; it’s about augmenting our capabilities. By offloading the grunt work to our new AI ‘co-pilot,’ we free up crucial headspace for what truly matters: deep strategic thinking, fostering genuine customer empathy, navigating complex stakeholder relationships, and crafting a compelling product vision. The role becomes less about managing a backlog and more about leading a direction. We’re shifting from product managers to product leaders.
But this shift requires us to adapt our skills and workflows.
How are you and your team practically using AI tools to automate tactical work and elevate your focus to more strategic initiatives?
