Beyond the Hype: Is Your Product Management Skillset Evolving for the AI Co-pilot Era?

The flood of AI-powered tools is relentless. We’ve all seen the demos for auto-generated PRDs, AI-powered user interview analysis, and instant market research reports. The initial hype (and fear) was about AI replacing product managers. But I think the more interesting, and immediate, conversation is about AI augmenting us.

Think of it as having an incredibly fast, data-savvy co-pilot. Repetitive tasks that used to consume hours—like transcribing interviews, drafting initial user stories, or running SQL queries—can now be done in minutes. This shift doesn’t make the PM role obsolete; it elevates it. It frees us from the tactical weeds to focus on the things that are uniquely human: building deep user empathy, navigating complex stakeholder relationships, setting a compelling product vision, and exercising critical judgment. The core of our job is shifting from execution management to strategic leadership. But this only works if we adapt our skills.

What parts of your PM workflow have you successfully augmented with AI, and which “human” skills do you believe will become even more critical for success in this new era?
