Let’s cut through the noise. The conversation around AI in product management often swings between ‘it’s going to take our jobs’ and ‘it’s just a glorified search engine.’ I believe the reality is far more interesting and lands somewhere in the middle: AI is becoming the most powerful intern we’ve ever had.
Think about the hours we burn on tactical, repetitive tasks. Synthesizing user interview transcripts, writing first-draft user stories, running competitive analyses, even creating initial roadmap drafts. These are necessary but often drain our energy for the deep strategic work that truly moves the needle.
New AI-powered tools are now capable of handling this “drudgery” with impressive speed. This doesn’t make the PM obsolete; it does the opposite. It frees us up to focus on the uniquely human parts of the job: building strong stakeholder relationships, deeply understanding customer context beyond the raw data, and setting a compelling product vision. By automating the ‘what,’ we get more time to define and evangelize the ‘why.’ This forces us to level up our skills from being great executors to becoming true strategists.
What specific PM tasks have you successfully offloaded to AI, and where do you think the line should be drawn between AI assistance and core human product judgment?
