We’re all talking about how AI can help us work faster—summarizing user interviews, drafting PRDs, and analyzing data in seconds. It’s a massive productivity boost. But I think there’s a more fundamental shift happening to the PM role itself, moving us from being primary ‘creators’ to expert ‘curators’ and ‘editors’.
Instead of writing that first draft of a user story, we’re now refining an AI-generated one. Instead of manually grouping user feedback, we’re questioning the clusters an AI model presents. Our core value is no longer in the initial act of creation, but in the critical judgment we apply to the output. We’ve been handed a brilliant, but sometimes naive, intern. Our job is to provide the context, strategic direction, and ethical oversight that the AI lacks. This means our ability to ask the right questions, spot subtle biases in data, and deeply understand customer needs is more critical than ever. We’re the final filter for quality, strategy, and empathy.
