PMs & AI: Evolving Our Role?

The AI revolution is here, and it’s reshaping every corner of software development. As Product Managers, we’re not just adding AI features anymore; we’re integrating intelligence into the core fabric of our products. This shift demands a re-evaluation of our traditional playbooks.

PMs must now dive deeper into understanding AI’s fundamental capabilities and limitations. It’s about moving beyond simply ‘specifying an AI feature’ to understanding model training, data requirements, and the ethical implications of autonomous systems. We need to become fluent in the language of AI/ML engineers, bridging the gap between cutting-edge technology and genuine user value. This means collaborating more closely than ever, not just on what to build, but how AI can truly solve user problems in novel ways.

Maintaining product-market fit becomes a dynamic challenge when the market itself is rapidly transformed by AI. Our role is to foresee these shifts, guide our teams through the complexities, and ensure our products remain indispensable. It’s less about project management and more about strategic foresight and ethical product leadership.
