Hey all,
It feels like every week there’s a new AI tool promising to revolutionize our product workflows. From writing first-draft user stories and PRDs to synthesizing user research and even analyzing market trends, these AI co-pilots are getting incredibly powerful. In many ways, they act like the ultimate junior PM – handling the tedious, time-consuming tasks and freeing us up for more strategic work.
The upside is obvious: massive productivity gains. We can spend less time on documentation and more time on vision, strategy, and stakeholder alignment. But I can’t shake a nagging question: are we at risk of outsourcing the very work that builds deep customer empathy and domain expertise?
The messy process of wading through raw interview transcripts or meticulously crafting a user story forces a level of critical thinking that a summary can’t replace. True insight often comes from the details. If we’re only ever looking at the AI-generated highlight reel, do we lose our connection to the user’s reality and the nuances of the problem space? We risk becoming managers of AI outputs rather than true owners of the problem.
What’s your take? How are you integrating AI tools into your PM practice, and where do you draw the line to ensure you’re augmenting, not replacing, your core product sense?
