We’re all talking about building AI into our products, but I’m more fascinated by a different trend: how AI is being built into the PM’s own toolkit. It feels like we’re quietly undergoing a massive shift in our day-to-day workflows.
Think about it. AI-powered tools can now synthesize hours of user interviews into key themes in minutes. They can draft initial product requirement documents or user stories from a simple prompt. They can analyze market data to spot opportunities we might have missed. Instead of spending hours on the ‘what,’ we’re increasingly being freed up to focus on the ‘why’ and the ‘who.’
This isn’t about AI replacing product managers. It’s about AI augmenting us. The PMs who learn to leverage these tools will be able to move faster, make more data-informed decisions, and ultimately spend more of their time on high-leverage strategic thinking and stakeholder alignment. The mundane tasks that used to bog us down are being automated, raising the bar for what a truly great PM can accomplish. This shift feels as significant as the move from waterfall to agile; we’re not just changing our products, but how we build them.
As AI takes over more analytical and documentation tasks, where should product managers be focusing their energy to provide unique value?
